| Rolladen Schneider LS 6 WL |

Werner happy new year!
I clean my PC and discovers your message to which I n' did not answer l' time. Excuse me to answer you in French, c' is better than anything. The first owner was Henri STOUFFS, an excellent pilot Belgian. He was pilot with l' old Belgian company " SABENA" He was world champion in " flight circulaire" , these small models with micro engines which turn in round, ordered by a handle and ropes steel wire. He was also a large follower of the gliding and took part in championships d' Europe and championship of the world. He thus enormously worked on each one of his machines. The LS6 was worked by him in detail: escapes d' air with the train d' landing, balancing, profit of weight and which I know. It was at the head all with length d' a championship of the world of gliding of l' time and very lost the last day to be retrogressed in 6th place if my memory is good. You will see the name of his son, Patrick Stouffs, with the prize list of recent competitions, championship of the world in Sweden, d' Europe, etc classify race or standard of it. The sailplane was then the property of the Federation of the French-speaking Clubs of Gliding. It was then lent has young candidates who n' did not have a powerful machine, but flew little at that time. The following owner is deprived, Louis Dresse, who obtained very good scores with the championships of Belgium and participle still has international competitions. Except error, it took part in the championship of the world of Poland with the LS6. I could find all that. I l' then began again and worked much to maintain it on a good level: (of memory) more comfortable bucket seat, caster of tail, winglets, new waterballast, work baited on the gelcoat, etc Louis Draws up and myself always called also upon the services of Aeroconcept with Würselen in Germany. I n' flew that for my pleasure on this sailplane which was really distinguished from the other LS6 in Belgium by good qualities of vol. The following owner, Laignel, s' is unfortunately extremely disinvested. the sailplane did not serve qu' to him; to await its new order. The sailplane quickly aged. I am thus happy new youth that you ensured him! The sailplane s' is always distinguished by a beautiful flexibility with the orders. When I flew in formation with d' others pilot, also in pilot LS6 and better than me, it did not manage to exceed me! J' enormously appreciated this machine very " sensitive" - one perceives perfectly the flight with his orders. The winglets were an advantage. At all of mean velocity, transition or flight " classique" , but well in the extremes and particularly in spiral tightened at low speed. The waterbalast were bought in the USA at l' importer building under licence for Rollanden Schneider. It offered a greater capacity for a less more modern weight and out of materials. We had sometimes difficult with good them to fill but c' was an advantage in general. It is necessary, like often in the sailplanes, to take care not to be centered too front. For more precise details on the dates and details of this account, j' had composed of the very complete bales of documentation delivered to Laignel at the time of the sale. J' hope that these 2 large A4 sorters were transmitted to you.
In any case cheer for this beautiful resurrection. I wish you many beautiful flights for this New Year's Day!
Well amicalemement, Etienne

Hello Werner, My name is Jean-Luc COLSON, Etienne send me your email dated from 3 january for information. I flew on his LS-6 (and now yours) for 3 years. That’s a fantastic LS-6 and I’m happy to see that you have completely renew it (he’s beautiful!). Now I’m flying an ASW-27 with the Belgian Team. I hope that you will win the Baron Cup, it will be fantastic!!! A French pilot friend (Mathieu SCHERRER) call me two days ago because he own an LS-6a and he want to know more information about winglets on LS-6. We discuss about performance, handling, installation,… and he ask me if I have some documents about these winglets in order to study the possibility to modify his one. I check in my archive and I found some original documents about your LS-6 (ex OO-ZRY) and precisely the modification in Germany by Aeroconcept (LBA Workshop). I don’t know if you have received these documents from Etienne (or Yvon Laignel)? Today, I made a scan of these documents. Please find them in attachment (Plans are too big to be scanned so I divided them). Just let me know if you need them or you want them, I will ship them by post. Best regards, Jean-Luc COLSON

Dear Werner
First of all, all the best for 2009 !
Jean Luc Colson from Belgium (who used to flew on your LS6WL) give me your email. I write to you because I also own a LS6a (wkn6044). The gelcoat is original, and the wing tips are regular. I intend to put it in a workshop next winter, so here are some questions
Where did you perform the gelcoat renewal of your glider ? I am thinking of AMS flight in slovenia because they own the navigation certificate for LS6 now : any experience ?
I intend to design and built my own pair of winglet (as I work as aerodynamicist). How easy/difficult is the behavior with EASA on such modification ? Is it more difficult than by LBA time ?? For sure a big part of the work will be on the paper side...
On your winglets : did you try flying without winglet, and can you feel the difference ? Do you respect the VNE imposed by those winglet (200km/h) Is the effort on the ailerons changed by the winglet ? I really love how light the aileron are at low speed, I don't want to spoil this...
Sorry for so much questions... Any further comment on the glider or on the winglets is welcomed !
Best regards
Matthieu
